A full bladder can put weight on the uterus, causing it to have ineffective contractions after the birth, thus limiting involution. If a mother is drinking plenty of fluids, it's true that a full bladder is inevitable, but she should void as soon as she feels the urge. Keeping the bladder full out of fear that urine will burn any incision site is not a good practice, and can lead to other problems such as bladder or kidney infection. A new mother should not limit her fluid intake, as dehydration can cause problems with milk supply, and will make a mother feel more fatigued than normal.
