Role playing plays a part in qualitative assessment by providing the counselor with insight as to how the client behaves in a given situation and providing the client with an alternative way to handle a situation. During role play the counselor can discuss why the client is reacting the way he or she is to the situation. The client can then see what the outcome might have been had an alternate reaction been chosen.
