The null hypothesis predicts that there will be no difference between populations during the course of a research study. The null hypothesis is the opposite of the research hypothesis, which predicts change. The results of a study can only support the null hypothesis or the research hypothesis. Both hypotheses cannot be correct. Once a study has been completed, Dr. Ripley will know whether or not the null hypothesis is correct.
