Pontiac's War taught the British that the colonists' demands for land would continue to generate conflict with the Native Americans. Pontiac and his Native American allies had sided with the British during the French and Indian War expecting to gain permanent control of their land in exchange. However, their expectations were not considered in the peace treaty, so Pontiac attacked the British. This war convinced George III to limit the expansion of the colonies by forbidding colonists to cross the Appalachian mountain range.
