Children living in low-income households have multiple reasons for not being as physically active as more affluent children. There are obvious problems with funding sports equipment, club memberships, and transport to sports practices and events. There are also neighborhood factors (e.g., poor-quality and a reduced number recreational facilities) and competing priorities (e.g., supporting the family by babysitting younger siblings, providing caregiving services, and working to contribute to the family income) (Stalsberg & Pedersen, 2010).
