Disorders of blood clotting (coagulation) are referred to generally as coagulopathies. Many different types of coagulopathies have been identified. Some people have congenital (inherited) conditions that result in their inability to produce adequate amounts of blood-clotting proteins (called coagulation factors). Examples of such conditions are the hemophilias. The hemophilias are sex-linked disorders-they are transmitted from mother to son on the X-chromosome and are found in boys only.
