28S rRNA, a component of the large subunit of the ribosome in eukaryotes, possesses peptidyltransferase activity, which catalyzes the formation of peptide bonds during protein synthesis.  During protein elongation, the peptide attached to the tRNA in the P-site is transferred to the amino group at the aminoacyl-tRNA in the A-site forming a new peptide bond. This reaction is catalyzed by peptidyltransferase activity which resides in what is termed the peptidyltransferase center (PTC) of the large ribosomal subunit (60S subunit). This enzymatic process is termed transpeptidation. This enzymatic activity is not mediated by any ribosomal proteins but instead by ribosomal RNA contained in the 60S subunit.
