Buddhism was first introduced to China during the Han dynasty through the Silk Road trade route by merchants. The Han emperors also expanded the empire's territorial domain through military campaigns, but they did not incorporate all of Southeast Asia into the Chinese realm. The Han dynasty lasted for over 400 years, from 206 BCE to 220 CE, and was a period of dynastic continuity. The state of Qin was actually the predecessor to the Han dynasty and became dominant during the Warring States period before being succeeded by the Han.
