Research suggests that adolescents are able to maintain a positive, high quality attachment relationship with both their parents and their peers. While their attachment to peers does tend to increase, their attachment to parents can still be very important to them. Additionally, attachment to an intimate partner typically does become more important during adolescence, but this does not necessarily mean that attachment to parents and peers decreases.
