Before they enter the lacteals, lipids are first broken down by enzymes and packaged into small droplets called micelles, which are then transported to the brush border of the intestinal epithelium. From there, they are taken up by the enterocytes (cells of the intestinal lining) and processed into chylomicrons, which are then released into the lymphatic system and transported to the bloodstream.
