Access specifiers in C++ (and other object-oriented programming languages) determine the level of access other code has to the members of a class. The three main access specifiers in C++ are public, private, and protected. These determine whether the members of a class can be accessed from outside the class (public), only from within the class (private), or only from derived classes of the class (protected).
