Primates acquire food through a wide variety of foraging strategies including but not limited to hunting, scanning for and collecting fruit, using tools to extract insects or tubers, and consuming leaves or other vegetation. While cooperation among kin groups can occur in some primate species, it is not the only or even primary strategy for acquiring food. Highly specialized foraging strategies and the use of material culture are also not universal among primates.
