Secondary rainbows occur when light reflects twice inside a raindrop, and as a result, the colors are reversed compared to the primary rainbow. This happens because the light refracts, or bends, as it enters and exits the water droplet, and then reflects off the back of the droplet before refracting again as it exits the droplet. This creates a second, fainter and broader rainbow on the outer edge of the primary rainbow.
