Beta-carotene has the highest vitamin A activity among carotenoids. It is a precursor to vitamin A and is converted into retinol in the body. Beta-cryptoxanthin and alpha-carotene also have vitamin A activity but to a lesser extent than beta-carotene. Lycopene, lutein, and zeaxanthin do not have vitamin A activity but still have important antioxidant properties.
