RhIG human gamma globulin concentrate of anti-D is administered to all unsensitized Rh-negative women after delivery or abortion of an Rh-positive newborn or fetus. Administering RhIG to an individual who is Rh positive will result in agglutination of red cells and hemolysis. It will not alter the person's genetic makeup. The anti-D antibody contained in RhIG will have no effect on Rh-negative newborns because the D antibody is not present.
