Latin America was colonized by Spain and Portugal, and these colonial powers imported slaves from Africa, as well as indigenous people and migrants from Europe and Asia. This resulted in a diverse multiracial society that continues to this day. While there were also some multiracial communities in British North America and Northern Europe, they were not as extensive as in Latin America. Southern Europe and China have not historically had significant multiracial populations.
