Infants can usually reach for objects by four months of age. At birth, infants have a reflexive grasp but do not yet have the motor skills to reach or grasp intentionally. By two months of age, infants can visually track an object, but they do not yet have the hand-eye coordination to reach for it. By seven months, most infants have developed a more refined grasp and can pick up small objects with their thumb and forefinger (pincer grasp).
