One method of refuting an argument is to draw an analogy between it and another (obviously bad) argument. Another method is to take an analogy found in the argument and show that the analogy can be used in ways that do not support the conclusion. Hume does this for the analogy in the design argument when he points out that the designer of a watch need not be alive still, so the designer of the universe might not exist still.
