Price discrimination allows a producer to charge different prices to different groups of consumers, thereby capturing more consumer surplus as producer surplus. This can increase the overall profit of a firm by expanding the market and generating additional revenue. Therefore, price discrimination does not eliminate producer surplus and can often increase it. Price discrimination may also increase output above the profit-maximizing level and increase a monopoly's economic profit.
