Marian is Rh-, which means she does not produce Rh antibodies. If her current fetus is Rh+, she may develop antibodies in response to fetal Rh+ blood cells. RhoGAM is an immunoglobulin that destroys Rh+ fetal cells before they can stimulate Marian's immune system to produce antibodies. The first dose of RhoGAM should be administered during the third trimester of pregnancy, ideally around the 28th week, to prevent sensitization.
