When performing a handstand, the scapula needs to perform upward rotation to allow the arms to fully extend and support the body in the inverted position. Elevation of the scapula can also occur to help bring the shoulders up towards the ears, but downward rotation and depression would actually hinder the movement and make it more difficult to achieve the handstand position. Upward tilt is not a necessary motion for a handstand.
