Under UPA, partners were jointly liable for contract obligations, but jointly and severally liable for any tort obligations. Under RUPA, liability was altered so that joint and several liability applies to suits in both contract and tort law. Basically, this means that each partner could find himself sued separately and could be individually liable for the entire judgment, rather than simply a proportional amount.
