Receptors for the five tastes are scattered in the taste buds and taste buds do not specialize in any particular taste.The papillae house the taste buds.Taste buds have supporting cells and a number of elongated taste receptor cells that end in microvilli at a taste pore.The microvilli,which project from the taste cells into the taste pore,bear receptor proteins for certain molecules.When molecules dissolved in solution bind to receptor proteins,nerve impulses are generated in associated sensory nerve fibers.These nerve impulses go to the brain,including cortical areas that interpret them as tastes.If the papillae are damaged due to the hot liquid then the microvilli will not be able to send the message to the correct nerve fibers.
