Immunoglobulins (antibodies) do not directly interact with cytotoxic T cells to lyse viruses. This function is accomplished by the T cells themselves. Instead, antibodies can bind to viruses and mark them for destruction by complement or phagocytic cells, or interfere with their ability to infect cells through neutralization. Antibodies can also facilitate phagocytosis through opsonization and combine with complement to destroy cellular antigens.
