Protamine sulfate is used to reverse the effects of heparin by binding to it and neutralizing its anticoagulant activity. Adding protamine sulfate to samples from patients taking heparin can induce clotting. Antithrombin III, reptilase, and fibrinogen are not used to reverse the effects of heparin and would not induce clotting in samples from patients taking heparin.
