Congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) is a genetic disorder caused by a deficiency in one of the enzymes required for the biosynthesis of corticosteroids in the adrenal gland. This deficiency results in a decrease in the production of cortisol and aldosterone and an increase in androgen production, which can cause abnormal development of the genitals in females and precocious puberty in males.
