Recognizing bladder fullness is an important factor in determining toilet-training readiness as the child needs to be able to sense when they need to use the bathroom and communicate that to an adult. Holding urine for a prolonged period is not necessarily a sign of readiness as some children can hold it for longer than others. The inability to control urination until seated on the toilet is an indication of immaturity in bladder control. Ignoring the desire to void is also not a sign of readiness.
