Paul of Tarsus, also known as Saint Paul or the Apostle Paul, was not a contemporary follower of Jesus. He was actually a Pharisee and became a Christian after having a vision of Jesus on the road to Damascus, several years after Jesus' death and resurrection. However, he did become an important figure in the early Christian church and wrote many of the letters or epistles found in the New Testament.
