Humidity in the atmosphere is a measure of how much water vapor is present in the air. On a humid day, the air around the glass of ice water is already saturated with water vapor. When the glass of ice water is added to the room, the temperature of the glass and the cold water inside causes the surrounding air to cool down. As the air cools, its ability to hold water vapor decreases and the excess water vapor present in the air condenses on the surface of the glass as water droplets. This happens because of the saturation of cooled air.
