The 3' end of the tRNA contains the amino acid binding site (the amino acid is covalently attached to the terminal adenine residue of the tRNA). The projecting part of the tRNA is the anticodon, which will base pair with the complementary codon on the mRNA during translation. The excess nucleotides (ACCA) are not cleaved off at the ribosome, but rather are important for recognition and binding of the tRNA to the correct aminoacyl-tRNA synthetase enzyme. The small and large subunits of the ribosome will attach to both the mRNA and the tRNA during initiation of translation. The 5' cap of the mRNA is not involved in tRNA binding or amino acid attachment.
