When air rises and expands, it cools adiabatically. When the temperature drops, the air loses its capacity to hold water vapor, causing the excess moisture to condense into droplets around small particles known as cloud condensation nuclei. As more and more droplets accumulate, they form a visible cloud. This process is known as condensation. So, as the air rises, it cools to its dew point temperature, and condenses into liquid water, forming clouds.
