Durkheim believed that the degree of social integration or the level of connectedness one had to society was a major factor in producing suicides. Those who were less connected to society and had weaker social bonds were more likely to commit suicide. Other factors such as job loss, depression or marital status were not considered as important as social integration in Durkheim's theory of suicide.
