Estevan, also known as Estevanico or Esteban the Moor, became an important trailblazer for Spanish explorers in the southwestern part of North America. He accompanied several expeditions, including that of Cabeza de Vaca, and acted as an interpreter and guide. He was also one of the few survivors of the Narváez expedition, which led to him being enslaved by the indigenous peoples of the region for several years.
