Other sugars, such as fructose and galactose, are converted into intermediates that enter glycolysis at later steps. For example, fructose is converted into fructose 6-phosphate by fructokinase in phase 1, step 3, while galactose is converted into glucose 6-phosphate by a series of reactions before entering glycolysis at phase 1, step 2. Once the sugars are converted into their respective intermediates, they can continue through the remaining steps of glycolysis.
