Secretin is a hormone that stimulates the secretion of bicarbonate from the pancreas and duodenal Brunner's glands in response to the acidic chyme entering the duodenum from the stomach. It does not directly stimulate pancreatic enzyme secretion or acinar cells. The presence of fat in the duodenum is a stimulus for another hormone called cholecystokinin (CCK) to be secreted.
