According to Mendelian genetics, when a homozygous dominant (RR) individual (round-seeded plants obtained in the F1 generation) is crossed with a homozygous recessive (rr) individual (true-breeding strain of wrinkle-seeded plants), the resulting F1 generation will all be heterozygous (Rr) and display the dominant trait (round-seeded). When these F1 individuals are allowed to interbreed, the resulting F2 generation will show a 3:1 phenotypic ratio of round-seeded to wrinkle-seeded plants. Therefore, we would expect 50% of the plants to be round-seeded in the next generation.
