Acoma was a Pueblo city located in what is now New Mexico. It was known as Sky City and was one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in North America. In 1598, the Spanish conquistador Don Juan de Oñate attacked the city, killing hundreds of Acoma people and enslaving others. The city was rebuilt, but the Acoma people still remember this tragic event as the Acoma Massacre.
