The hyoid bone is a U-shaped bone located at the root of the tongue in the anterior (front) of the neck and between the mandible (lower jaw) and the largest cartilage of the larynx (voice box). The primary function of the hyoid bone is to serve as an anchoring structure for the tongue. It is the only bone with no articulation with other bones. This means it is not connected to any other bone.
