Chromosome pairing refers to the recognition and coming together of homologous chromosomes during meiosis. This is important in order for crossing over to occur and for proper segregation of chromosomes during cell division. Replication and joining of chromatids (B) occurs during the S-phase of the cell cycle prior to cell division. Localization of chromosomes at the nuclear envelope (C) occurs during interphase, but is not specific to chromosome pairing. Crossing over between chromosomes (D) occurs during prophase I of meiosis, after chromosome pairing has occurred.
