Rice is most likely to be a major cash crop in a region that is wet, temperate, tropical or subtropical, with forests. Though rice can be grown in a variety of climates, the world's top rice producers all have similar environments. Thailand leads the world in rice exports, and, like much of Southeast Asia, it is tropical and forested. Many of the world's other top rice producers are from Southeast Asia.
