The Five Rights of Medication Administration are the right patient, the right dosage, the right time, the right drug and the right route. A medication error occurs when any one of these rights is violated. For example, a medication error occurs when you have given the wrong dose or the wrong medication to a patient. These five basic rights are sometimes expanded to Seven Rights with the right documentation and/or the right form.
