Children of parents with professional occupations such as attorney, doctor or journalist, tend to score higher on the SAT and to receive more emphasis on higher education from their educated parents. When a parent has a higher education, they are more likely to expect the same from their children. Many colleges actually encourage the application of first generation college students.
