Steve Is Depressed and Is Receiving Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT)

Steve is depressed and is receiving electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) . Although we do not know for sure, ECT seems to work because it will:

A) Cause Steve to forget the reasons for his problems
B) Serve to stimulate certain hormones and neurotransmitters, which can affect Steve's thoughts and behaviors
C) Make Steve feel better because the shock will hurt more than the feelings of depression
D) Serve as a source of punishment for Steve's feelings of depression
