Your patient has neutropenia. Neutropenia is the condition of a low absolute neutrophil count. Neutrophils are a type of white blood cell that fights against infection. Absolute neutrophil count (ANC) is a measure of the number of neutrophil granulocytes. When a child is receiving chemotherapy, the physician measures the patient's white blood count regularly, specifically the neutrophils.
