The nature of a crisis is that clients lose their ability to cope as they know it or attempt to apply current coping skills without any success. Both of these situations result in decompensation that can present clients very readily to therapy, whether or not they are prepared. While they are overwhelmed, oftentimes in crisis, they push those feelings away in favor of something that looks and feels more normal, even if it is only temporary.
