Cole Porter was a Lost Generation musician, not an author. Many members of the Lost Generation-including Fitzgerald, Hemingway, Eliot, and also Porter-became American expatriates in Paris during the 1920s. The Lost Generation was resplendent with gifted writers, many of whom are considered some of America's all-time greatest authors. The term "Lost Generation" was coined by Gertrude Stein, a friend of Hemingway's. He popularized the term when he used it in an epigraph for his The Sun Also Rises.
