Transabdominal pelvic sonography is not appropriate for this situation. A radionuclide bone scan is useful for suspected skeletal metastatic disease from prostate carcinoma. CT of the abdomen and pelvis is useful for possible intra-abdominal metastatic disease. An MRI of the pelvis is very good for local staging of prostate carcinoma.
