Hemophilia B is caused by a deficiency in factor IX, which is necessary for the proper formation of blood clots.  Hemophilia B results from deficiencies in factor IX. The prevalence of hemophilia B is approximately one-tenth that of hemophilia A. All patients with hemophilia B have prolonged coagulation time and decreased factor IX clotting activity. Like hemophilia A, there are severe, moderate, and mild forms of hemophilia B and reflect the factor IX activity in plasma.
